About
  • I make a variety of domestic stoneware that is dishwasher, microwave, and oven-proof.
  • The clays I use are an iron-flecked clay which produces a lovely brown mottle and a smooth white stoneware for more delicate pieces.
  • For decoration I use my own stencils or I apply texture to the clay surface in various ways.
  • As a fan of Japanese ceramics I visited Mashiko, home of the great Japanese potter Shoji Hamada, where I spent 3 weeks making pottery. On a second visit I spent a month in Bizen, another famous pottery centre. I also took the opportunity to visit studios such as Imari and Karatsu on Kyushu. As a result, my work is influenced by Japanese styles and techniques.
